10 elements of Wells Process Safety
Maintaining a safe environment by preventing the escape of hazardous products or energy from the well or from the (well control) equipment used at the well, throughout the life-cycle of the well:
- design,
- construction,
- operation,
- well-intervention,
- abandonment.
Barriers
Know your physical (primary and secondary) well barriers. A barrier must be verified (tested) before qualifying as a ‘barrier’.
Lost Barrier
If a barrier is lost, stop immediately and fix it
Subsurface Uncertainties
Know and communicate subsurface uncertainties.
Well Control Equipment
Know your well control equipment and confirm it’s certified and tested .
Trained people
Confirm all people are trained and competent for the task.
Standards & Procedures
Follow standards and procedures or get approval to deviate.
Risk Assessment
Perform risk assessment during planning and changes.
Walk the Line
Walk the line’ on temporary rig-ups and confirm set-up is as per the layout drawing.
Emergency Response
Test your emergency responses and conduct regular drills.
Report / Learn
Report Wells process safety incidents –investigate, share, learn .
