Chemical Management Manual – Maersk Contractors

The main objective of this manual is to ensure that the handling of chemicals within Maersk Contractors complies with all relevant legislation, conventions, rules, and regulations. The manual shall ensure that:

1. The employee’s safety and health are protected against the danger that originates or may originate from the handling, storage, and transport of chemicals.
2. The external environment is protected against discharges.

In order to fulfill the main objectives above, the procedures in this manual shall ensure that:

• Chemicals that are prohibited to use by the authority or clients are not used.
• All chemicals are risk evaluated and approved prior to use, i.e. the products shall be on the MC Global Approved Chemical List.
• The approval process is documented and a risk assessment report is available for relevant persons.
• The required precautions are taken when dealing with hazardous chemicals.
• Chemicals posing a hazard to health and/ or environment are continually assessed and, if possible, replaced by substances that pose a less health- and environmental hazard.
• Chemicals are transported, loaded/ unloaded, stored, and used in a safe manner.
• Quality assured Material Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals are readily available.

The application of the manual must be considered in the context of applicable legal and contractual requirements.
