PDO operates three airports in the interior namely Marmul, Fahud, and Qarn Alam. The airports are regulated by the Oman Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) and operate to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS). The fire stations in Marmul, Fahud, and Qarn Alam also cover the industrial sites.
PDO also operates fire stations at Nimr, Yibal, Lekhwair, and Bahja. There is also a fire station on the coastal area at Mina Al Fahal (MAF).
PDO Fire Services is currently manned by a combination of PDO staff and contractor staff from Carillion Alawi LLC.

On a number of occasions during 2011 contractor staff took industrial action and withdrew their labor. This resulted in considerable business disruption and compromised the PDO Company ERP.

In light of these incidents and the need to ensure adequate fire cover in the case of a major incident, PDO MDC has endorsed a strategy to ensure sufficient trained and competent PDO staff are available at all times to provide fire service cover for all the company’s airports and industrial sites. This will be achieved by recruiting volunteers from existing operational PDO staff. In the case of MAF, it is assumed that the Civil Defence will provide fire service cover.

The purpose of this procedure is to outline the Policies and Procedures for PDO Volunteer Fire Fighters. This document will inform all staff involved with PDO Fire Services including the Volunteer Fire Fighters, the Senior Fire Service Officers, Delivery Team Leaders (DTLs), Directors and the MDC of the expectations and requirements of the Volunteer Fire Fighters working for PDO as well as 2 yearly rotation TOP graduate program.
