General Conditions for DROPS Survey:
Inspectors to be qualified to carry out Drops survey
Quality control on the final product to be in place;
Provide soft copy large size photos of each item;
Generate the following docs:
Survey report;
Inspection Checklist;
Surveyor Qualification
Surveyor Competency to be demonstrated by attaching his certification;
Also the Surveyor must be competent in the following topics:
Reliable Securing Best Practice;
Safe Bolting Techniques;
Cargo Handing and Lifting Operations (including Lifting Equipment);
Moving / Dynamic Equipment and Machinery;
Solid Knowledge of Drilling Equipment and Functions;
Capacity (SWL & WLL) of the lifting equipment and the calculations related to it;
Awareness of relevant Safety Alerts and Safety (HSE) bulletins issued by equipment suppliers;
Risk Assessment;
DROPS definition (static/dynamic), causes, consequences;
Timesheet
Timesheet of the Surveyor counter signed by Rig Manager to be attached as a proof of time spent on the Unit
Survey report
Survey report must consist of the following sections:
Surveyor Qualifications
Surveyor Timesheet;
Surveyed Unit description, i.e. Name, Zones;
Survey findings;
Zones
Must be divided into Zones – that will enable the Rig Manger to delegate certain areas to different personnel.
Unit Sketch/Drawing of the Unit with Zones clearly identified;
Mast Portray layout to be used;
Survey Findings Columns
Have the following columns:
Ref. Number;
Photos of the equipment to be inspected (General and magnified one) – large enough to be clear if printed in A4 format;
Location of Equipment (by Inspection Area);
Title of item;
Weight of item;
Primary securing method(s) of item;
Secondary retention method(s) of item;
Secondary retention swl;
Inspection Procedure (populated from the ‘How to Inspect’ column of the Equipment Family Inspection Criteria);
Passed / Failed survey;
Comments (state to be recorded ie Satisfactory or Reason for Failure & how to fix);
Inspection Checklist
Survey Company to generate checklist:
Checks to be carried out in the following timeframe:
Weekly;
Monthly (if applicable);;
3 monthly (if applicable);
6 Monthly, i.e. items to be included to Unit 6-monthly maintenance (e.g. items requiring NDT etc.);
Inspection checklist must be generated in Portrait Layout;
Text to be minimized as much as possible;
Divide into Zones;
Have the following columns:
Ref. Number to match with Survey Report;
Photos of the equipment to be inspected (General and magnified one) – large enough to be clear if printed in A4 format;
Title of the Item;
Inspection Procedure (populated from the ‘How to Inspect’ column of the Equipment Family Inspection Criteria);
Inspection Frequency (populated from the “Inspection Frequency” column of the Equipment Family Inspection Criteria);
Condition Pass / Fail;
Comments;
Consider having EX-IPADs to be used for Drops Inspection;
Failed Items
Fix the failed items;
