2. Hazards

  • All hazards of working at heights
  • Falls inside or outside of window
  • Hand and finger injury
  • Dropped curtain with a rod
  • Eye injury from debris falling while drilling the ceiling
  • Electric shock from portable drill
  • Ladder falling

4. Controls

  • Attach yourself with a safety belt/harness and lanyard to an achor point to prevent falls
  • Close the window to prevent falling outside
  • Familiarize yourself with Drill handling techniques before climbing the ladder
  • Install the rod using proper installation instructions, e.g. proper size screws, etc.
  • Use Safety Glasses
  • Check the Drill for any damaged cord and at least tape it.
  • Choose double action activated drill
  • Follow the 4 to 1 ratio ladder rule: set the base 1 foot out from the wall for every 4 feet it reaches up.
  • Ensure ladder has rubber padding on the feet, to prevent slipping, but in any case, tie it to the wall (better to be on the safe side).

5. Recovery Measures

  • If you happen to fall, then throw the drill aside, so that you don’t land on the bit.
