Process
- Toolbox Talk held and full understanding of (a) Communication means, (b) Break-off signal and action in event of an Alarm, (c) Work process
People
- Fire Watchman knows how to use fire extinguisher
- Number of Firewatchers considered
- Fire Watchman is in direct contact with person conducting work
Area
- Heat/Smoke sensors have been inhibited
- Isolations Applied
- Pressurized systems are bled off
- Escape routes are clear
- Area within 7 meters from worksite – on same level – been inspected and have flammable and combustible material been removed or isolated from ignition sources (such as ropes, hoses, pools of oil, gas bottles)
- Areas exposed to heat transfer in adjacent compartments (above, under, next to) been inspected, and
- Flammable and combustible material been removed or isolated from ignition sources
- Areas be monitored during work
Equipment
- Fire extinguisher readily available
- It is the correct type for the type of work concerned e.g. CO2 for electric, powder for oil, water for wood and cardboard
- Fire extinguisher is charged
- Backup Fire extinguisher is available
- If a fire blanket is required, is it in good condition with no holes or oil contamination
