HSE Engineer

Responsibilities

  • General stewardship of project ensuring compliance with contract, code and legislation on all HSE matters

  • Preparation of proposals, man hour estimates
  • Project management, production of project deliverables on time and to budget.
  • Identification of HSE requirements for a given project, planning and implementation of associated activities.
  • Preparation of HSE Plan / Loss Prevention Philosophy document for the project.

  • Scoping, leading and following up HAZID, HAZOP and constructability reviews.
  • Review of design documents and plans – across all disciplines – to ensure HSE compliance and to identify specific hazards.

  • Preparation of Hazardous Area Schedules and layouts.

  • Preparation and management of, both Qualitative and Quantitative Risk Assessments, including application of dispersion, fire and / or explosion models, Safety Cases, FMECA techniques, risk ranking, EERA, ESSA, TRIA, SGIA.
  • Quality Assurance – Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the Business Unit
  • Safety – Responsible for personal safety safe working practices for the Business Unit.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of HAZID, HAZOP and constructability reviews.

  • Knowledge of Fire and gas detection equipment – philosophy, layout and specification.

  • Loss prevention equipment – specification, layout and modelling (e.g. Pipenet).
  • Application of international codes including: NFPA and API
  • Understand and follow OH&S procedures.
  • BSc in industrial engineering, systems engineering, or mechanical engineering or related degree. These programs should combine classroom studies with labs and field experiences.

  • Membership of a relevant Engineering Institution or similar.

  • Knowledge of applicable International safety legislation.
  • Thorough understanding of electrical safety, equipment lockout, machine safeguarding, and industrial machinery operations

  • Analytical thinking – analyzing regulations, compliance guidelines, safety practices, audit reports, and other documentation is a must for these engineering professionals
  • Problem-solving skills – HSE engineers review safety issues and possible environmental impacts and offer real solutions to prevent accidents and injuries and address environmental concerns
  • Communication skills – producing clear and concise reports, leading training classes, and speaking with federal officials such as inspectors and auditors calls for strong verbal and written communication skills
