Date of incident: Monday, 19 May 2026.
Location: Chemical manufacturing unit, Sector 5, Bawal industrial area, Rewari district, Haryana, India.
Incident type: Factory fire followed by multiple explosions.
Casualties: 6 injured, including 2 in critical condition.
A massive fire broke out at a chemical manufacturing factory in the Bawal industrial area of Rewari, sending thick black smoke into the air and triggering explosions heard from a considerable distance. The blaze erupted around 12:30 p.m. and spread rapidly through the premises, where inflammable chemicals were reportedly stored.
Authorities said all employees present at the time were evacuated safely. The injured workers were taken to a government hospital for treatment, and fire crews worked to bring the blaze under control. Preliminary reports suggested that repair work may have been underway in the factory’s chilling plant when the fire started, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
Police and fire services responded quickly and coordinated evacuation and rescue efforts.
Forensic experts were called in to determine the exact cause of the fire and explosions.
No deaths had been reported at the time of the report.
No FIR had been registered yet.
Chemical storage and hot/repair work must be tightly controlled through permit-to-work systems and strict segregation of ignition sources from flammable inventories.
Emergency evacuation planning appears to have worked in this case, since all employees were evacuated safely despite repeated explosions.
Industrial sites with flammable chemicals should have strong fire detection, containment, and inspection regimes, especially around cooling/chilling systems and maintenance areas.
