The explosion occurred during the restart of the Olefin 1 plant at MOL’s petrochemical site in Tiszaujváros. The company said the fire was localised by firefighters and the response remained ongoing after the blast. MOL said the circumstances were being investigated by experts and did not report any indication of external interference.
Separate reporting stated that a compressor likely exploded during restart work, and that among the injured one person suffered life-threatening respiratory burns while seven others sustained minor burns. Injured workers were transported to hospitals in Debrecen and Miskolc.
