Singapore Tankstore Fire in 2018

The fire broke out at a fuel oil storage tank at Tankstore’s terminal in Pulau Busing, off Singapore, Tuesday (20.03.2018) evening.
The fire has been extinguished.
The volume of fuel oil affected was around 40,000 cu m.
The largest tank capacity at Tankstore is 60,000 cu m, according to the company’s website.
Any material loss from the fire will likely be covered under insurance, market sources also said.
The fire was finally extinguished after six hours, before 2 am Singapore time, according to local media and Singapore Civil Defence Force updates on social media.
“After approximately six hours of intense firefighting operations, the raging oil storage tank fire was extinguished by the combined efforts of SCDF Emergency Responders and CERT members,” SCDF said in its latest update on the fire at Pulau Busing.
“It was a massive operation. 31 firefighting vehicles and 128 SCDF personnel were deployed. SCDF had to ship the necessary equipment and vehicles to the island, in waves. Five unmanned water monitors were quickly deployed to cool the adjacent oil tanks, preventing the fire from spreading,” said K Shanmugam, Singapore’s Minister for Home Affairs and Minster for Law.
An oil tanker shipowner said he had first spotted the fire at 6 pm local time Tuesday.
Photos and videos of the event showed storage tank 454 was on fire, which was also visible from the main Singapore island.
Platts reported earlier citing market sources that only one tank, containing fuel oil, was affected by the fire, which was likely caused by a lightning strike.
Tankstore has a total of 2 million cu m of liquid storage capacity in Singapore.
