NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety

The NEBOSH International Diploma is the leading qualification for international health and safety practitioners. The NEBOSH Diploma builds on the knowledge gained at Certificate level; it is designed for those seeking a successful long-term career as a health and safety professional. The benefits of holding the NEBOSH International Diploma include:

  • Allows you to use the letters ‘IDipNEBOSH’ after your name
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of IOSH (GradIOSH), the first step to becoming a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner
  • Entitlement to full membership (MIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM))
  • Meets the entry requirements for many safety related Masters programmes offered by UK universities

The NEBOSH International Diploma comprises of following four units:

Unit A: Managing health and safety

  • Element A1: Principles of health and safety management
  • Element A2: Principles of health and safety law
  • Element A3: Criminal law
  • Element A4: Civil law
  • Element A5: Loss causation and incident investigation
  • Element A6: Measuring and reviewing health and safety performance
  • Element A7: The assessment and evaluation of risk
  • Element A8: Risk control
  • Element A9: Organisational factors
  • Element A10: Human factors
  • Element A11: The role of the health and safety practitioner

Unit B: Hazardous substances / agents

  • Element B1: Managing occupational health
  • Element B2: Identification, assessment and evaluation of hazardous substances
  • Element B3: The control of hazardous substances
  • Element B4: The monitoring and measuring of hazardous substances
  • Element B5: Biological agents
  • Element B6: Noise and vibration
  • Element B7: Radiation
  • Element B8: Mental ill-health and dealing with violence and aggression at work
  • Element B9: Musculoskeletal risks and controls
  • Element B10: Work environment risks and controls

Unit C: Workplace and work equipment safety

  • Element C1: Workplace welfare requirements and specific workplace issues
  • Element C2: Fire and explosion
  • Element C3: Workplace fire risk assessment
  • Element C4: The storage, handling and processing of dangerous substances
  • Element C5: Work equipment
  • Element C6: Workplace machinery
  • Element C7: Mobile, lifting, access and work at height equipment
  • Element C8: Electrical safety
  • Element C9: Construction and works of a temporary nature – hazards and controls
  • Element C10: Workplace transport and managing work-related road risk

Unit DNI: Application of health and safety management in the workplace

Assessment

You actually have 5 years from the date of your enrollment with NEBOSH to complete the whole qualification, however you should aim to complete your studies within twenty four months of enrolling for the course.  During this 2 year-period you are entitled to unlimited advice and support via phone, email or fax.

When you are ready to take the exams, simply let your course provider know and they will register you with NEBOSH.  You may take the exams at any of Traingin Provider’s training centre registered to conduct examinations or at a British Council near you. The British Council charges an administration fee to invigilate the exams, so you will need to pay this fee directly to the British Council.

The examination for both versions of the syllabus consists of three 3-hour written examinations (one each for Units IA, IB & IC) and an 8,000 word work based project. You must pass all four to be awarded the NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.

Re-Asssessment

In case you did not do well in your exams in one or more unit/s, you can re-sit the unit/s which you failed on the next available exam sitting. Charges apply.

Entry Requirements

The NEBOSH Diploma builds on knowledge that is gained from studying a NEBOSH Certificate or similar course and it is therefore highly recommended such a qualification is gained before starting the NEBOSH Diploma course.

Important notice: Once delegates are registered with NEBOSH there is no other way to cancel or change the registration. In case a delegate failed to sit on the examination unit/s he was registered, he will be marked absent by NEBOSH and he will be considered as a re-sit candidate the next time he is ready to sit the examination. This means that this delegate will need to re-register with NEBOSH and that involves re-sit or re-registration fee per unit of Dhs 945 per unit.
