Job Overview: Amazon is seeking a Safety Officer (also known as Workplace Health & Safety Coordinator) to drive health and safety initiatives at our Riyadh, Saudi Arabia fulfillment center. In this role you will ensure a safe working environment by implementing and monitoring workplace health and safety (WHS) policies, procedures and programs.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Lead and coordinate site risk assessments and maintain a WHS training matrix to ensure all associates receive required training.
- Implement Amazon WHS standards and objectives; develop and monitor WHS programs to address identified risks and compliance gaps.
- Promote a positive safety culture, driving associate engagement through daily safety briefings, safety walks and hazard reporting.
- Conduct regular site safety audits and inspections; prepare action plans and follow up on corrective actions in Gensuite and other systems.
- Attend incidents and guide managers during root-cause investigations; ensure timely reporting and closure of WHS cases.
- Maintain PPE inventory and conduct weekly inspections of fall protection equipment, fire extinguishers, first aid kits and other tools.
- Plan and deliver fire safety, first-aid and emergency response training; organise drills and ensure emergency response plans are up to date.
- Monitor heat index and environmental conditions; manage hazardous waste areas, first aid rooms and other WHS facilities.
- Communicate regularly with site leadership and regional WHS teams; prepare WHS dashboards, meeting agendas and status reports.
**Required Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Science or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of occupational health and safety experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to train and influence diverse teams.
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills; ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Experience leading teams, analysing accident data and using action tracking systems.
- Certified in first aid, CPR or emergency response; experience managing workers’ compensation cases.
- Passion for workplace safety and continuous improvement.
